Pumpkin spice is all the rage at the moment. While it does make coffee exceptionally exciting, it makes hot chocolate pretty extraordinary as well.

This hot chocolate recipe is ridiculously easy and tastes better than anything you’d buy at a coffee shop! Guess what? It starts with a coffee creamer!

I used International Delight Hershey Chocolate Caramel creamer as the base for this hot chocolate recipe. I added MORE chocolate, pumpkin puree, and lots of pumpkin pie spice. I added bourbon cream as well, that ingredient is totally optional (insanely delicious, but not for everyone).

The best part is that this recipe is so simple and easy to make that you really don’t need to do much to get a few mugs of warm cocoa.

Ingredients

  • International Delight Chocolate Caramel Coffee Creamer
  • Milk
  • Semisweet chocolate chips
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Bourbon cream

For garnishes, you may like:

  • Whipped cream
  • Cinnamon
  • Shaved chocolate

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Recipe

  1. Combine the cream, milk, and chocolate in a medium-sized saucepan. Stir together with a whisk until the chocolate has melted.
  2. Cook over medium/low heat for 5-8 minutes or until thick.
  3. Stir in the pumpkin spice and puree.
  4. Adjust the seasonings to suit your own tastes then remove the pan from the heat.
  5. Stir in bourbon cream, if using.
  6. Ladle the mixture into two mugs and top with whipped cream, cinnamon, and chocolate shavings.

Is pumpkin hot chocolate healthy?

I’d like to think of this drink as being healthier than the stuff found in mystery packets but due to the fats and sugar content, it may not be the healthiest drink option. That said, it’s still made with real pumpkin and tastes incredible so at least you’re getting some nutrition out of every glass.

What kind of chocolate chips can I use?

You can use semi-sweet chocolate chips as I did or you can choose to use milk chocolate or white chocolate chips as well. Each variety comes with its own sweetness levels and flavor but all will taste pretty delicious!

Can I make this pumpkin spice hot chocolate recipe in a slow cooker?

Yes, if desired you can make this cocoa recipe inside of a crock pot. Simply multiply the recipe about 4 times so and allow the mixture to sit on low heat for about 2 hours until the chocolate has fully melted and the ingredients can be whisked together until smooth. Divide into 8 mugs and add your whipped cream and desired toppings. Enjoy!

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

Instructions
